Joaquin Torres Garcia

Garcia was a unique artist who combined styles of art to create his truly original works. He combined the candombe style with an abstract one to create the new and rising planismo style that is made to purely to appeal to senses. After a commission to Roberto Payro, Garcia’s work began to gain popularity with people of Barcelona and soon grew. During this time he wrote a book called Notes sobre Arte that highlighted on his life revolving around art. He then sought out new places to see and learn, so he visited New York and Paris where he met other artists. With whom he developed the golden rule that is used commonly in all art today. Before his death, Garcia went home to Montevideo in hopes to inspire young people to follow the arts. With this effort programs and schools were set up to support his cause (
